Becknell Industrial was constructing a new commercial manufacturing plant. In this type of facility, the fire code required a 90-minute rated coating to be applied to all structural steel and supporting columns.
The N.A. Logan team started in the field by sandblasting all structural steel components to create an ideal profile for receiving the specialty coating. Next, the team applied primer, followed by a fire-retardant intumescent coating at the specified thickness to meet the required rating for fireproofing. This ensured the steel structure had the necessary protection and durability when exposed to high heat and compared to conventional cementitious coatings, the intumescent fireproof coating also had a super aesthetic finish.
